Supply Chain Risk Assessments for Organic and Inorganic Materials  

• Perform material regulatory readiness checks, materiality assessments, material ‘deep dives’ (e.g. cobalt supply chain studies, or geographically-specific studies), and focused risk management advisory services. I currently focus this service for minerals, timber, and agricultural products for food, clothing, and beauty.
• Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIAs)—- desk or field based. Do you need to understand how your existing operations or sourcing practice aligns with international human rights standards or sourcing norms (OECD DDG, etc.)? I can help you get organized, understand if your supply chain(s) is/are causing or contributing to adverse human rights impacts, and then provide clear management-strategies. Depending on your needs, I can do the work myself or I can associate quickly with vetted, discrete talent. I can even organize field teams to confirm information at the source (if agreed to be truly needed). 
• Create and assist in implementing supplier engagement strategies and capacity building. 
• Outline and assist with presentations to top executives on the business case for supplier engagement and supply chain risk management methods.

ASM Partnership and Commercialization Advice 

• ASM Situational Analysis: This service is typically a field based exercise followed by a desk-based report. I work with vetted, discrete, independent national experts to visit the area, understand the demographic, social, and community profile of the miners, the types of mining underway and the target materials/minerals, seasonality of mining & other income notes, the identified formal or informal economic ecosystem and supply chain dynamics within the focus geography (to the point of export or beyond), and whether ASM is legal and under what circumstances in that country context. Practical engagement advice and support can be a follow up service. The material(s), goals of the project/engagement, security situation, country context. and available budget will drive many decisions. All organizations will undergo a due diligence review of their own prior to becoming my clients. Please contact me for more information. 
• ASM group or site benchmarking, improvement plans, and onboarding assessments: This service is for those who know they have ASM producers in their supply chain, or for those who have already engaged the ASM producers in some way. This service compares the ASM unit’s realities in comparison to your company’s internal standards, global sustainability or commodity standards, or your customers’ standards. I can provide an improvement roadmap with real-world ways to get it done. If you need ongoing support, I may be able to help with that too (or coach your team to greatness!)

ASM ’Risk Management‘ 

• Proactively and professionally manage the reputational or legal risks related to artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). 
• I bring some of the most extensive real world engagement expertise in the industry engaging diverse ASM stakeholders in complex situations on the toughest issues in mining. I can detect difficult issues, and train national teams to understand and stop issues related to modern slavery, such as human trafficking, forced work, and child labor in mining. 
• Gender risk and empowerment assessments 
• Provide specialized community engagement advice to organizatiins or companies operating in areas where ASM or LSM are active
• Government engagement advice (my company may partner with vetted in-country advisors for this service) 
• All services can be contracted under terms of an NDA but all prospective clients are subject to an initial due diligence review. 

Research partnerships and collaborations 

• Specialist studies in modern slavery, child labor, gender & mining, youth engagement, and more. 
• Focused studies on supply chain dynamics of materials in specific countries, or of specific minerals of development interest or human rights concern. I am available for field studies in most locations or to coordinate them. 

Project Services, Technical Advisory, or Social Change Support

• Tactical advice, coaching, and support to nonprofits and other types of organizations working on constructive reform topics in the extractive sector. 
• Short-term technical assistance (STTA) in the form of expert trainings, program design, assessments, staff development (technical / thematic trainings), specialist expert-level reports, expert review of technical documents, proposals, and plans, and more. I have more than 15 years of direct experience in diverse international NGO HQ, national offices, remote field office, and ‘no office’ operating environments. 

    Please note that while I do work in complex, dynamic environments and post-conflict environments, I do not work in active or imminent conflict zones. However, I do associate with experts who do and I can make excellent referrals.
